To welcome the release of their debut album, Mixed Feelings, the South London-based band Beaty Hearts have ushered out a tropical hurricane of percussion wrapped in winding falsettos. The culmination is a bit like the single “My Girls” off Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavillion.
What begins as a handclap encircled by kitchen-inspired instrumentals, Beaty Hearts builds upon with a soothing vocal flow that is complimented by gruff electric guitar strums and The Lion King-esque chorus chants. It’s an unlikely evolution; one that seldom fits both an electronic and folk mold by layering traditional sounds in a colorful manor.
