Washed Out release quixotic video for “Weightless”

Being more of a seven-and-a-half minute mini-flick, Washed Out’s newest video nearly encapsulates their August 2013 album, Paracosm, by beginning with their opening track (“Entrance”) and wrapping up with their closer (“All Over Now”). Underneath the haze of Ernest Greene’s vocal echo chamber, the unrequited love between two California boys unfolds: one of whom appears to prefer doing med spins and reverts with his rollerblades over the companionship of his pal.

It’s a dreamy affair altogether, but not unlike the repertoire of director David Altobelli’s previous videos efforts which include M83’s “We Own the Sky.” In relation to his idea for the “Weightless” video, Altobelli said, “Unrequited love is a universal emotion. In this case, the emotions are heightened because there exists yet another wall between the protagonist and the object of his affection. It’s heartbreaking and inevitable, but it’s also just part of being a kid in love.”

A fresh list of tour dates were also announced to accompany their video release. Check to see if Washed Out is visiting a city near you this summer.
