Grimes spills “Voignamir”, a collaborative track with Majical Cloudz about their fat cat

Animal Planet believes over half the cats in America are overweight (approx. 53%) – many of them beelining towards an impending Garfield-esque swinging gut stage. It’s comforting to know some owners out there truly care about their feline counterpart’s dietary health, even if it means forcing them into a strict eating regiment. In this case, specifically, Claire Boucher (frequently known as Grimes) and her close friend Devon Welsh (best known for is deep cutting voice with Majical Cloudz) both attempted this with their cat, Voignamir, in 2009.

Expectedly, it probably wasn’t the best of times when Voignamir got moody from his disrupted eating patterns, yet Claire and Devon felt the creative impulse to compose a song about their struggles – a song that oddly sounds like a genre neither of them typically indulge upon. Before today, no knowledge of the mutual track “Voignamir” existed, that is until Claire posted it under her actuallygrimes Tumblr account.

She said:

ooooh my gosh

found this song on my computer that me and dev of majical cloudz made in like 2009 about our cat voignamir who at the time was on very bad terms with us because we were forcing him to diet and so he was like, very violent but literally like 20 or 30 pounds.

i dont know why it sounds like indie rock haha, neither of us really make music like this

And of course, here is the song:

For a brief walkthrough of Claire and Devon’s prior musical encounters, watch the “Nightmusic” video from Grimes’ 2012 Visions record where Majical Cloudz is credited. And for an easy game of I Spy, try and pick him out from Grimes’ video for the ineffable “Oblivion” track (hint: he in the very beginning of it).
