I’ve always had a helluva time introducing Foxygen to others: ‘they’re your ultimate sundae,’ I’d say, ‘The Beatles being their ice cream foundation, then overboarded by multiple syrups pertaining to be all the classic rock institutions you can think of – distinctly The Rolling Stones, The Kinks – while The Velvet Underground sits as the cherry on top.’ It’s no doubt a mouthful (but at the least a flavorful affair).

Presently, it seems we are near to hit the post-We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic days. Announced via their website and label Jagjaguwar, Foxygen are bound to drop a 24-track album on October 14th named …And Star Power, a title which oddly coincidences singer/songwriter Sam France’s solo LP called Star Power. Google will wash up zero hits in search of France’s solo work, due specifically to co-founding member Jonathan Rado’s insistence he remove it from the Internet (all before Rado swiftly released his own solo LP). The power struggle dynamic atop Foxygen’s blue mountains has visibly remained between France and Rado – by virtue of on-stage fights and revealing Tumblr blog posts – something we hope has been put in the past for the California group.

To boost anticipation for …And Star Power, Foxygen additionally posted this picture to outline what’s in store:

The 82-minute record promises “a gaggle of guest stars,” enlisting the genres of “psych-ward folk, cartoon fantasia, soft-rock indulgences, D&D doomrock and paranoid bathroom rompers” – a true sundae of music mashed together.

“How Can You Really”, the second-listed track and first let-go off the album, amounts to exactly where the band’s sound was before and will continue progressing forward to be. First listens pigeonhole “How Can You Really” to be a 60s era soul romp, pulling strings from the days “Twist and Shout” caused a nationwide ruckus. The paired video (below) follows mostly Sam France through a dimly-lit warehouse cobbled around cubicles and standard office decor. Members of Gardens & Villa and Dub Thompson make up the video’s supporting cast – the later of whom will be opening for Foxygen during the majority of their tour dates. Those show listings can be found here.
