Fresh off the heels of his dual album release, the Purple One will soon take center stage at 30 Rock to be the musical guest of the Nov. 1st episode of Saturday Night Live. This will be Prince’s third appearance on the show (with 1981 and 2006 being his only previous performances). The official announcement was given via Twitter, inscribed below:

This, of course, means his female backing band will join him on stage. Veteran SNL alum Chris Rock, the episode’s host and avid Prince fan, has only hosted once (in 1996) since his departure. The Nov. 1st episode will mark welcome returns for both men who – most expectedly – will don the stage for a skit together at some point.

Back in 1997, Chris Rock actually sat down with Prince for a VH1 To 1 interview where the two candidly talked about experiences in each one’s respected line of work. At one point, Chris Rock asks Prince about his reasons behind turning down a music video for Michael Jackson’s song “Bad.” Watch the explanation he had apparently given to the King of Pop nearly two decades ago:

Hopefully this episode cashes in on the starlight of Prince and Chris Rock, as last Saturday’s episode hosted by Bill Hader (an SNL favorite from the 2000s era) tied for the lowest rated episode ever.
